Sidhant Gupta Explores the Challenges and Prospects of India’s Dairy Industry

India is the world’s largest producer of milk and a major player in the global dairy industry. However, despite its massive production, the country’s dairy sector faces several challenges. Sidhant Gupta, a well-known expert in the dairy industry and former Director of Kwality Ltd., talks about both the problems and opportunities in India’s growing dairy market.

“India produces about 22% of the world’s milk, with over 70 million dairy farmers contributing to this huge number. But even with such a large output, the industry is mostly unorganized, and traditional farming methods are still common,” says Mr. Gupta.

India’s large dairy industry is both a strength and a challenge. On one hand, the high milk production ensures the country has enough for itself and the potential to become a leading global exporter. However, most dairy farming is done by small farmers, which makes it hard to bring in modern technology, improve infrastructure, and maintain consistent quality. These factors are crucial for growth and international success.
