India’s rural areas are as diverse as its cultural richness, yet they face similar challenges: economic gaps, poor infrastructure, and limited access to quality goods. Even after 78 years of independence, India still deals with issues that hinder our rapidly growing economy. In a country where the goddess Annapurna symbolizes nourishment and sustenance, it seems only natural to take inspiration from her spirit to address these nutritional gaps.
To tackle these issues, the Rajasthan government launched a groundbreaking initiative in 2015 to modernize and strengthen the Public Distribution System (PDS) called the Annapurna Bhandar Yojna. Today, we’re speaking with IAS Subodh Agarwal, who, as the Principal Secretary (Food and Civil Supplies) with the Rajasthan Government, was responsible for implementing this project. He shared that this unique initiative would not only improve the public distribution system but also modernize retail across the region.
